KEEP NIGERIA-CLEAN ADVOCACY RALLY 2010

OBJECTIVES

Advocacy Rally on October 1st, 2010. This initiative aimed to promote cleanliness and environmental awareness in Ibadan, Nigeria, in response to the city being labeled the dirtiest in Nigeria by former Minister of Urban Development, Mrs. Halima Tayo Alao. With this project, we aim to;

Re-orientate Nigerians on the importance of cleanliness. Practically demonstrate leadership by example in maintaining a clean environment.
Contribute to achieving a cleaner, healthier, and more beautiful Nigeria exemplified through the city of Ibadan.

METHODOLOGY

Pre-rally sensitization: Participants gathered at All Saints’ Church, Jericho, Ibadan, for educational sessions.
Rally: Four groups were formed:

– Band: Created awareness through music.
– Cleaners: Hand-picked dirt and trash along the route.
– Awareness Team: Held placards and banners promoting cleanliness.
– Souvenir Distributors: Gave out free materials (packers, dustbins, etc.) with “Keep 9ja Clean” inscriptions. Route: Forestry College, Jericho, to Dugbe, Ibadan.

OUTCOMES & IMPACT

The outcomes of our advocacy rally are as follows; Successfully engaged over 300 participants.

Distributed 20 dozens of packers and dustbins.

Reached over 200 market women, shop owners, and passersby with awareness materials.

Promoted environmental awareness and cleanliness among community members.

We were able to make the following impact;

Raised awareness about the importance of cleanliness. Inspired community members to take ownership of environmental maintenance.
Contributed to the report about “Ibadan no more dirtiest city in Africa” a few years later.

The Keep Nigeria Clean Advocacy Rally demonstrated RID Nigeria’s commitment to addressing social issues. We will continue to promote environmental awareness and cleanliness, striving towards our vision of a “Cleanest and most beautiful nation in the world.
