On the last Sunday of June, something extraordinary happened in Abuja. Over 100 young believers gathered under one roof to engage in bold, unfiltered conversations about democracy, governance, and the future of Nigeria.
Politics and Jollof is a monthly meetup curated by RID Nigeria, a faith-based civil society organization committed to mobilizing and equipping Christian youths for active participation in politics and governance. The goal? To raise a generation of value-driven leaders who will lead Nigeria into becoming a first world nation.
This debut edition featured the thought-provoking theme: “Democracy: Fact, Fiction, or Fluke?” The conversation room was electric, with heated debates, sharp insights, and ideas that flowed freely among attendees from various sectors including law, media, education, civil society, public policy, and business.
Facilitated by Mr. Alex Adekunle James, Executive Director of RID Nigeria, the session challenged participants to rethink what democracy really means in the Nigerian context, and whether our current system truly represents the will of the people, or merely a façade. From historical reflections to personal convictions, no opinion was off-limits.
More than just a talk-shop, Politics and Jollof is fast becoming a safe space for young believers to question, learn, connect, and strategize around Nigeria’s pressing political and governance issues. It blends civic engagement with Christian conviction, creating a unique community of faith-driven reformers.
With plans already in motion to expand to other states across Nigeria, this monthly gathering is more than an event, it’s a movement. A movement proving that Christians can and must have a seat at the table where national decisions are made.
Because if we won’t, who will?
